Ocean Informatics has taken a leading international role in the development of technology and tools to share health information in a computable form, and in particular the Shared Electronic Health Record (SEHR).
The Ocean team is a unique mix of clinicians, engineers and computer scientists - collectively with well over 120 years of health informatics experience. This expertise has been focused primarily on using the openEHR approach which used archetype-enabled data as the foundation for the SEHR for many years.
Our specialist consulting areas are:
- All aspects of the Shared Electronic Health Record - from theory to implementation
- The openEHR architecture - Ocean has been a major author of the open source specifications, and is a world leader in development of tools supporting openEHR implementation
- Clinical modelling - the use of archetypes, templates and terminology subsets to specify clinical content
- Semanic interoperability - the sharing of health information in a computable format between health applications
- Legacy data integration - using archetypes and templates as the basis for a semantic transformation from disparate structures to a common data structure
- Clinical terminology - the need to harness clinical terminologies within archetypes and templates has driven Ocean to devise tools to 'tame' terminologies such as SNOMED CT and enable them to be utilised effectively for clinical data capture
