The Ocean business is focussed on enabling truly shareable electronic health records based on the openEHR specifications.
We offer:
- Expert consulting and advice on openEHR architecture strategy and implementation;
- Clinical and technical openEHR training; and
- Development of tools to support openEHR implementation and semantic interoperability in clinical software application development.
1. International
In the international sphere Ocean are co-founders and active contributors to the openEHR Foundation's open source EHR architecture. Ocean founders have been integral to the inception and ongoing R&D of openEHR since 1990. In addition, we have been, and continue to be, active contributors to a broad range of international health informatics standards developments, especially most recently through CEN and ISO where the openEHR archetypes have been adopted as part of CEN 13606 and Archetype Definition Language is under consideration as an ISO standard.
2. National Government/eHealth Authority

Ocean supplies the Clinical Modelling tool suite for development of openEHR archetypes and templates that provide the foundation for a logical record architecture. In addition the Knowledge Management tools support the drive for semantic interoperability by enabling dynamic integration of meaningful terminology subsets and a repository to support cross jurisdictional publishing and maintenance of clinical content artefacts, including individual and/or release sets of archetypes initially, and eventually including templates, terminology subsets and other knowledge artefacts. - Consulting
Ocean partners with government and eHealth authorities to develop a clinical content strategy that best suits their needs.
- Training
The Ocean team supports the clinical content lifecycle by training in the authoring and governance processes.
3. Care Delivery Enterprises/Clinical Application Developers

Ocean has developed the OceanEHR Platform as the comprehensive toolset to support the direct implementation of the openEHR specifications into new clinical applications and embed the archetypes and templates in existing clinical EHR systems. - Consulting and Training
The Ocean technical team provides system build advice and training to implementers working with openEHR in practice. As major authors of the openEHR specifications, Ocean is in a unique and expert position to effectively and efficiently support practical openEHR implementation.
